North Korea Warns U.S., Japan And South Korea Over Joint Military Exercises

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) North Korea's Kim Yo Jong warned that upcoming U.S., Japan, and South Korea military drills are a“reckless show of power” likely to provoke negative consequences.
Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, has warned that joint defense drills involving the United States, Japan, and South Korea will bring“negative consequences” for the participating nations.

According to North Korea's state news agency KCNA on Saturday, September 13, Kim described the trilateral exercises as a“reckless show of power,” underscoring Pyongyang's continued hostility toward regional security cooperation.

Her remarks came shortly after Seoul announced that the military exercises, known as“Edge of Freedom,” are set to begin on Monday, September 15, involving large-scale drills.

South Korean media also reported that Washington and Seoul plan to conduct another round of exercises, codenamed“Iron Hammer,” next week. These drills are expected to integrate nuclear and conventional capabilities.

Pyongyang has repeatedly denounced such maneuvers as rehearsals for invasion. In the past, it has responded to similar exercises with weapons tests, heightening tensions across the Korean Peninsula.

Analysts note that the new drills come at a sensitive moment, as the U.S. seeks to reinforce alliances in Asia amid China's rise and North Korea's expanding arsenal.

North Korea's warning highlights the persistent volatility in the region, where military posturing by both sides risks deepening mistrust and raising the potential for further confrontation.
