(MENAFN) High-level discussions between South Korea and NATO on strengthening cybersecurity cooperation took place on Thursday in Seoul, according to media, citing the country’s Foreign Ministry.

The talks, focused on enhancing defense against cyber threats, were spearheaded by South Korean Ambassador for International Cyber Affairs Lee Tae Woo and Jean-Charles Ellermann-Kingombe, NATO’s Assistant Secretary General for Innovation, Hybrid and Cyber.

Both parties committed to expanding their collaboration on countering cyber risks and assessing cybersecurity vulnerabilities across the Indo-Pacific and Euro-Atlantic regions.

This latest round of talks follows the establishment of the high-level cyber dialogue between South Korea and NATO in 2023, aimed at intensifying joint efforts in the cybersecurity domain.

The talks followed a meeting earlier this week between South Korean Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back and Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, the head of NATO’s Military Committee. During the meeting, the two officials discussed ways to enhance defense and industry cooperation. According to South Korea's Defense Ministry, Dragone expressed support for strengthening substantial collaboration between South Korea and NATO, with a focus on expanding areas such as defense and military exchanges, information sharing, cyberspace, space, and artificial intelligence.
