A local magistrate in Swat has granted bail to a Peshawar-based goldsmith, Haji Gul Jamal, accused of purchasing stolen gold worth crores of rupees that was looted during a daring dacoity by men disguised as police officers.

The bail application was argued by Advocate Nouman Muhib Kakakhel, who represented the accused goldsmith before the court of Judicial Magistrate Swat-I.

During the proceedings, Advocate Kakakhel contended that his client, a well-known and respected jeweller from Sarafa Bazaar, Peshawar, had been falsely implicated in the high-profile case. He maintained that no recovery had been made from Haji Gul Jamal and that no evidence linked him to the alleged dacoity involving 230 tolas of gold biscuits, cash, and mobile phones.

The defence argued that connecting a Peshawar-based businessman to a robbery incident in Swat lacked both legal and evidentiary basis, and that the case against the accused was one of further inquiry, entitling him to the benefit of doubt under the law.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court granted bail to the accused against surety bonds of Rs. 80,000 each from two persons.

The case has drawn public attention due to its unusual circumstances, where robbers impersonated police officers to commit one of the most audacious gold thefts reported in the region.
