Tunisia 'Keen' To Transfer Jordan's Agricultural Expertise-INRAT

Irbid, Sep.11 (Petra) – A delegation from the National Institute of Agronomic Research of Tunisia (INRAT) and Tunisian Agency for Technical Cooperation (ATCT) on Wednesday toured the key agricultural projects in Northern Jordan Valley region.
During their visit, the delegation discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector, which would contribute to achieving joint food security and sustainable development.
The meeting was attended by Head of the Projects Directorate at the Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture, Mohammad Hiyari, and Director of Agriculture Affairs in Northern Jordan Valley District, Mohammad Naeem
Talking at the meeting, Naeem noted Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture's "commitment" to supporting the agricultural sector, enhancing its role in the national economy, and stimulating and improving investment climate in various fields through "practical steps and programs that offer promising opportunities."
In turn, the Tunisian delegation checked on the key agricultural projects and models in the region, as well as the notable challenges and opportunities for developing the sector.
Touring pilot agricultural projects, the delegation were briefed on the modern agricultural methods used in the Northern Jordan Valley, particularly in citrus cultivation using advanced irrigation systems.
The team also reviewed the ongoing citrus cooling project in the Northern Jordan Valley, supported by the Islamic Development Bank.
The delegates were briefed on the project's objectives, operating mechanisms, and role in supporting the citrus value chain by improving post-harvest processes, which would enhance the competitiveness of products in local and foreign markets.
The delegation, headed by Dr. Monzer Ben Salem, INRAT Director, praised efforts made to develop the Kingdom's agricultural sector and agri-development projects.
Ben Salem stressed Tunisia's "keenness" to benefit from Jordanian expertise in this field and open up prospects for constructive cooperation, particularly for developing agricultural production chains and improving food security.
