Reports reveal Trump’s intense phone call with Israel’s PM
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump reportedly had a tense phone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday, expressing his “deep frustration” at being surprised by Israel’s strike on Hamas representatives in Qatar.
According to reports, senior US officials said Trump told Netanyahu that targeting the Palestinian group’s leaders in Doha, Qatar’s capital, “wasn’t wise” and that he “was angry to learn about the attack as it was occurring from the US military—rather than from Israel—and that it struck the territory of another US ally that was mediating negotiations on ending the Gaza war.” Netanyahu reportedly replied that he had only a brief window to carry out the strikes and acted accordingly.
Officials noted that a second, more cordial call followed, during which Trump asked Netanyahu whether the operation had been successful. Netanyahu could not confirm at the time. Later, Hamas confirmed that its leadership had survived, though five members of the group and a Qatari security officer were killed.
Despite Trump’s reputation as a strong supporter of Israel, he has reportedly grown increasingly frustrated with Netanyahu, who often undertakes aggressive actions without consulting the US, complicating Trump’s own Middle East objectives. On Tuesday, Israel’s military stated it had carried out a "precise strike targeting the senior leadership" of Hamas.
