LONDON - Leslie McGibbon, the global comms lead at health technology company Philips, is moving to telecoms giant BT as its chief corporate affairs and brand officer.
McGibbon joined Philips in March 2023 as global head of communications and brand. He took over from Ed Walsh, who moved to Swiss luxury goods group Richemont – whose jewellery and watch brands include Cartier and Chloé – as group corporate affairs director.
Before Philips, McGibbon was European head of corporate affairs at global healthcare business Teva Pharmaceuticals for four years, leading led teams across communications, brand, government relations, ESG, business transformation and digital content.
Previously, McGibbon served as corporate director and global head of communications and public affairs at AkzoNobel, during a period of significant corporate unrest. He also led global communications for consumer healthcare at GSK, the world's largest over-the-counter medicine business.
The first half of his career was spent in the hotel industry with the Hilton and InterContinental Hotel Group, where he led the corporate affairs function globally.
In his new role, which he takes up on 1 December, McGibbon will be a member of BT's executive committee and will report directly to chief executive Allison Kirkby. BT is the UK's leading provider of fixed-line, mobile, broadband, and IT services, serving customers in 180 countries.
The previous communications lead, Stephen Lewis, left BT at the start of this year after less than six months in the role to become a partner at Prosek Partners – his first consultancy role after an in-house career that included senior comms roles at Blackstone, KPMG and Barclays.
McGibbon said:“I'm thrilled to be joining BT at such an exciting time in its transformation, and to lead its world-class corporate affairs team. BT is an iconic brand and institution and I'm very much looking forward to helping the company further strengthen its reputation as the UK's most trusted connector of people, business and society.”
Currently based at Philips' headquarters in Amsterdam, McGibbon will be moving back to the UK with his family.
