I am a Senior Lecturer in Factual, dedicated to helping students develop their own voices as a form of agency, while cultivating their ability to articulate thought through film and media practice. As a practice-based researcher, my work explores documentary filmmaking, transnationality, auto-ethnography, and the complexities of on-screen self-representation. I approach these themes through a critical-cultural lens, examining how identity, voice, and agency are negotiated in first-person narratives.

A core strand of my research focuses on educommunication - the intersection of education and communication -particularly in socio-environmental and intercultural contexts. Drawing on participatory filmmaking methods and Paulo Freire's dialogical approach, I collaborate with Indigenous communities in Latin America to co-create media projects that strengthen cultural preservation, language revitalisation, and memory practices. These projects often address pressing issues such as climate justice, displacement, and community resilience, positioning communication not merely as a technical tool but as a political and cultural right.

In addition to my academic pursuits, I am also an experienced filmmaker with over 17 years of practice across Latin America, the UK, and Europe. My professional background spans documentary distribution and exhibition alongside producing and directing projects for international clients such as Spotify UK, Uber, and Red Bull Media House, as well as for NGOs including Amazon Watch and Survival International.

Across both my filmmaking and teaching, I remain committed to supporting individuals and communities to use their voices to tell their own stories, fostering processes of self-representation that can generate meaningful cultural and social change.
