AMMAN, Sept 10 (KUNA) -- King Abdullah II of Jordan reaffirmed on Wednesday his country's unwavering support for the Palestinian people in securing their legitimate rights and establishing an independent state based on the two-state solution.
The remarks came during a meeting in Amman with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, according to a statement by the Jordanian Royal Court.
King Abdullah stressed Jordan's continued regional and international efforts to support Palestinian resilience and rejected any attempts to annex occupied territories.
He emphasized the importance of the upcoming Two-State Solution Conference in New York, expressing hope that it will yield concrete steps, especially as several European countries move toward recognizing Palestine.
The King also called on the international community to confront threats to regional security and condemned the Israeli aggression on Qatar.
He reiterated the need for a ceasefire in Gaza and unimpeded humanitarian aid to alleviate the worsening crisis, while rejecting Israeli plans to entrench control over Gaza and expand settlements in the West Bank.
King Abdullah affirmed Jordan's continued custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem under the Hashemite guardianship and voiced support for the Palestinian Authority's reform and state-building efforts.
President Abbas, in turn, praised Jordan's key role under King Abdullah's leadership in supporting the Palestinian cause. (end)
