Japan Condemns Israeli Occupation Strike On Qatar

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) TOKYO, Sept 10 (KUNA) - Japan on Wednesday strongly condemned Israeli occupation for its strike targeting Hamas leaders staying in Doha on the previous day, warning the move undermines diplomatic efforts for a Gaza cease-fire and endangers stability in the Middle East.
"Currently, the most urgent issues are achieving a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages. At such a time, when serious diplomatic efforts are being made by the countries concerned, including Qatar, the Israeli attack hinders diplomatic efforts and threatens Qatar's sovereignty and security, as well as regional stability," Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi told a press conference.
"Japan strongly condemns this action and urges Israel to immediately return to talks and work sincerely toward achieving a cease-fire and the release of hostages, " said Hayashi.
The top government spokesman also stressed Japan's solidarity with Qatar and reiterated the importance of peace and stability in the Middle East to Tokyo's foreign policy.
"Japan will continue to make every necessary diplomatic effort to prevent further deterioration of the situation," he added. (end)
