Russian Defense Ministry Addresses Polish Airspace Breach Allegations
(MENAFN) Russia's Defense Ministry has addressed Poland's claims of airspace violations, stating it had no intention of striking targets in Poland during its recent Tuesday night attacks on Ukraine. The ministry conveyed its readiness to engage in discussions with the Polish military regarding the incident.
In an official statement, the ministry detailed a large-scale strike on Ukrainian military-industrial facilities across the Ivano-Frankivsk, Khmelnytskyi, Zhytomyr regions, as well as the cities of Vinnytsia and Lviv.
The ministry affirmed: "Targets within Poland’s territory were not planned to be attacked. The maximum flight range of Russian UAVs used in this attack, allegedly crossing into Polish territory, does not exceed 700 km. Nevertheless, we are ready to conduct consultations on this issue with the Ministry of Defense of Poland."
According to Russia, the strikes successfully targeted Ukrainian defense industry sites involved in the production and repair of armored and aviation equipment, engines, electronic components, and drones. It specifically mentioned hitting workshops at the Lviv Armored Vehicle Plant, which repairs and modernizes armored vehicles, and the Lvov Aviation Factory LDARZ, which manufactures long-range drones and repairs combat aircraft.
The ministry concluded by asserting: "The objectives of the strike have been achieved. All designated targets have been struck."
Poland's prime minister claimed on Wednesday that his country’s airspace was breached by what he referred to as “Russian drones” overnight, adding that Polish forces had successfully downed several of them.
