Amman, Sept.10 (Petra)--His Majesty King Abdullah II, during a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday, reaffirmed Jordan's unwavering support for Palestinians in obtaining their just and legitimate rights and establishing their independent state, on the basis of the two-state solution.
During the meeting, attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, His Majesty emphasized that Jordan will continue to exert all efforts at the regional and international levels to strengthen the resilience of Palestinians on their national soil, asserting the Kingdom's absolute rejection of any measures to annex land.
Speaking about the conference on the implementation of the two-state solution that will take place in New York this month, the King emphasized that the conference should produce clear steps that support the political process, particularly given the intention of several European countries to recognize the Palestinian state.
His Majesty called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities to confront all threats to regional security, reiterating Jordan's condemnation of Israel's brutal aggression against Qatar.
The meeting also touched on developments in the Palestinian territories, with the King stressing the need to mobilize international support for a ceasefire in Gaza and ensure the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid to alleviate the catastrophic situation in the Strip.
His Majesty reiterated Jordan's absolute rejection of Israel's plans to consolidate its occupation of Gaza, expand its military control over it, and expand settlement activity in the West Bank.
The King reaffirmed the Kingdom's steadfast commitment to fulfilling its historic and legal role, under the Hashemite Custodianship, in safeguarding Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
His Majesty also stressed the importance of supporting the Palestinian National Authority's reform efforts and empowering it in a manner that serves the interests of Palestinians.
For his part, President Abbas affirmed Jordan's vital role, led by the King, in supporting Palestinians' resilience and steadfastness in every way possible.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, and the accompanying Palestinian delegation attended the meeting.
