Helicopter Crashes in Indonesia’s Papua with Four Onboard

(MENAFN) A helicopter carrying four people crashed Wednesday afternoon in Indonesia’s Central Papua province, officials confirmed, as search and rescue operations intensify amid uncertain conditions.

The aircraft went down around 1:40 p.m. local time during a flight from Ilaga Airport in Puncak Regency to Mozes Kilangin Airport in Mimika Regency, according to I Wayan Suyatna, head of the search and rescue office in Mimika.

"The helicopter has been located. The occupants are the pilot, co-pilot, and two passengers," Suyatna told media, noting that the status of those onboard remains unknown.

Rescue teams are preparing to evacuate the site, but Suyatna cautioned that efforts will resume Thursday, depending on weather and other operational conditions.
