European Leaders Condemn Israel’s Strike on Qatar
(MENAFN) Israel’s assault on Qatar’s capital, Doha, on Tuesday sparked widespread denunciation, with European authorities warning that the attack breached Qatar’s sovereignty and jeopardized delicate efforts toward a Gaza ceasefire.
Spain’s Foreign Ministry criticized the bombing as a "violation of Qatari territorial sovereignty and a flagrant breach of international law," urging caution and a rapid return to diplomatic channels.
French President Emmanuel Macron described the strike as "unacceptable" and emphasized the importance of preventing the conflict from spreading across the Middle East.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer denounced the attack as a violation of Qatar’s sovereignty, highlighting that the main priorities should be an immediate ceasefire, the liberation of hostages, and increased humanitarian aid for Gaza.
The European Union likewise condemned the operation, labeling it a breach of Qatar’s territorial integrity that could heighten regional tensions.
"Any escalation of the war in Gaza must be avoided -- it is in no one’s interest. We will continue to support all efforts towards a ceasefire in Gaza," the bloc stated.
Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin remarked that the strike "takes us further from a ceasefire and lasting peace," warning that it could destabilize the region and hamper negotiations for hostage releases.
Slovenia, Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belgium, and Norway issued comparable condemnations, expressing solidarity with Doha and stressing the importance of upholding international law.
