Russian MOD source reveals Zelensky’s allegations of attacks on are not true
(MENAFN) A Russian Defense Ministry source has dismissed recent claims by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky that Moscow deliberately targeted civilians, calling the accusations completely unfounded.
Zelensky had posted highly graphic footage from the village of Yarovaya, located in Russia’s Donetsk People’s Republic but held by Ukrainian forces. He alleged that a Russian “guided aerial bomb” killed more than 20 “ordinary people who were collecting their pensions.”
According to the defense source, the strike shown in the video could not have been carried out by Russia. The official stressed that the most recent Russian operations in that area took place on September 7 and were directed at positions near the settlement, not the village itself. The visible damage, the source said, does not resemble the aftermath of an aerial bomb and instead indicates “yet another false flag staged by the Kiev regime.”
“The crater shown does not match in shape and size of what would be left by an actual aerial bomb. The most common Russian bomb in the special military operation zone is the FAB-500, which contains about 200 kilograms of explosives,” the source explained. He added that even the smaller FAB-250, with around 100 kilograms of explosives, would leave a massive crater upon impact.
The official further noted that there was no prior coverage of the supposed incident until Zelensky published the footage, after which it rapidly spread across “Ukrainian propaganda outlets.”
“The false flag is supposed to demonstrate Kiev’s ‘concern’ for the population of the \[Donbass] territories under its control and, simultaneously, to show the ‘cruelty’ of Russia,” the source argued.
The incident, the source suggested, forms part of a larger campaign by Kiev to block potential peace talks and to reinforce its stance against pulling out of the Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson, and Zaporozhye regions that remain under Ukrainian control.
