Extreme Russian Attack Hits Ukrainian Village
(MENAFN) Ukraine reported on Tuesday that a Russian airstrike claimed the lives of at least 23 people in a village located in the eastern Donetsk region.
Lyman Mayor Oleksandr Zhuravlev informed a Ukrainian national public broadcaster that the strike occurred at around 10:40 a.m. local time (0740 GMT).
"At the moment, 23 people have died and 18 have been injured," Zhuravlev stated, adding that three of the injured are in critical condition.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the incident as “a brutally savage Russian airstrike with an aerial bomb on the rural settlement of Yarova in the Donetsk region” in an initial post on the US social media company X.
Zelenskyy highlighted that the attack happened “at the very moment when pensions were being disbursed,” confirming that more than 20 people lost their lives.
“Such Russian strikes must not be left without an appropriate response from the world … A response is needed from the United States. A response is needed from Europe. A response is needed from the G20. Strong actions are needed to make Russia stop bringing death,” he urged.
In a related update, Donetsk Governor Vadym Filashkin wrote on Telegram that at least 21 people were killed and “as many people” were injured.
He added that emergency services are currently on site assisting victims and assessing the full impact of the attack.
