Türkiye Edges Poland to Secure Place in EuroBasket 2025 Semifinals


(MENAFN) Türkiye clinched a spot in the semifinals of FIBA EuroBasket 2025 after a commanding 91-77 victory over Poland on Tuesday, marking their first semifinal appearance in 24 years.

The Turkish team will now face the winner of the upcoming Lithuania vs. Greece matchup, set for September 12.

Poland capitalized on three-pointers early, hitting shots from the corners, while Türkiye’s offensive strategy centered around aggressive plays in the paint. The opening quarter was closely contested, concluding with a 19-19 tie.

A strong start to the second quarter saw Türkiye launch a 5-0 run, with pivotal contributions from Alperen Sengun, Cedi Osman, and Kenan Sipahi, pushing the lead to double digits by the 17th minute (36-26). Türkiye continued to extend their advantage and entered halftime with a solid 46-32 lead.

The momentum shifted in the third quarter as Türkiye grew their lead to 21 points by the 27th minute (61-40). With a firm grip on the game, the Turkish team entered the final period up 65-50.

Poland attempted a late rally, narrowing the gap to single digits (78-70), but Türkiye maintained their composure and sealed the victory at 91-77, securing their semifinals berth.

Sengun delivered a historic performance, posting a triple-double with 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists. He became just the fifth player in tournament history to achieve the feat. Şehmus Hazer and Shane Larkin added 13 points each to the victory.
