Gaza Starves: Israeli Blockade Kills Six More Palestinians
(MENAFN) Six more Palestinians have died from starvation and acute malnutrition in the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of famine-linked deaths to 399 since October 2023, according to a statement released Tuesday by the territory’s Health Ministry.
The mounting death toll includes 140 children, the ministry said. Of those, 121 fatalities — including 25 children — occurred after the UN-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) officially designated Gaza a famine zone last month.
Since March 2, Israeli authorities have fully sealed off all border crossings into Gaza, a move that has driven the territory’s 2.4 million residents into worsening famine conditions.
The humanitarian disaster unfolds amid a broader military campaign by Israel, which has, according to the Health Ministry, killed more than 64,500 Palestinians since launching its offensive in October 2023. The ongoing assault has left the densely populated enclave in ruins.
In a significant escalation of international legal scrutiny, the International Criminal Court in November issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Gaza.
Separately, Israel is currently facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice over its conduct in the war-torn territory.
