Srinagar -Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday urged Muslims to follow the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) in practice while strongly criticizing the administration for“deliberate negligence” in rescheduling the Milad-un-Nabi holiday and for failing to act on recurring flood threats.

Delivering his sermon at the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar on the eve of Milad-un-Nabi, Mirwaiz extended greetings to Muslims in Jammu and Kashmir and worldwide. He said true devotion to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم required sincerity, compassion, and service to humanity, not words alone.

Referring to the recent flood scare, he blamed both people and authorities - citing encroachments on wetlands and flood channels by the public, and the government's failure to dredge the Jhelum, maintain embankments, or implement a comprehensive flood plan despite the 2014 devastation. He stressed that dredging was vital to restore the river's depth, regulate sand extraction, and revive its historic role as a navigable waterway.

Mirwaiz urged the community to stand by families whose homes and fields had been damaged, calling for solidarity in difficult times.
