4 Qatari Planes Bring Aid To Quake-Hit Afghans
KABUL (Pajhwok): Four Qatari aircraft carrying humanitarian aid have arrived in Kabul, delivering two mobile hospitals, medicines, food supplies and essential shelter items to support earthquake victims in eastern Afghanistan.
In line with directives from the Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Qatari Amiri Air Force planes landed on Wednesday in Kabul with assistance provided by the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), benefiting approximately 11,000 people, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said in a statement.
This aid forms part of an air bridge operated by the State of Qatar to help alleviate the suffering of the brotherly Afghan people following the earthquake that struck eastern Afghanistan, causing hundreds of deaths and injuries.
The State of Qatar's delegation to Afghanistan was led by the Minister of State for International Cooperation, Dr Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, and included representatives from the Qatar Armed Forces, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Qatar International Search and Rescue Group of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) and the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD).
This assistance comes within the framework of the State of Qatar's ongoing support for the Afghan people and reflects its unwavering commitment to humanitarian solidarity and aid for those affected by natural disasters.
A powerful earthquake, recorded at a magnitude of 6.0 by the US Geological Survey, struck around midnight on Sunday.
Kunar province suffered the heaviest losses, while Nangarhar, Laghman, Panjshir and Nuristan provinces were also affected by the disaster.
On Wednesday, Fitrat reported that at least 1,457 people had been killed so far, 3,394 wounded and 6,782 houses destroyed in Kunar alone.
