Kuramaya Reaffirms Japan's Strong Support For Afghans

KABUL (Pajhwok): The outgoing Japanese Ambassador to Afghanistan, Takayoshi Kuramaya, has assured the Afghan people of Japan's continued cooperation in the fields of development and humanitarian assistance.

In a statement, the Ministry of Economy (MoE) said that a farewell meeting was held between Qari Din Mohammad Hanif, Minister of Economy and Ambassador Kuramaya here.

During the meeting both sides discussed strengthening bilateral economic ties and expanding humanitarian aid.

Ambassador Kuramaya praised the Islamic Emirate's achievements in improving security, combating narcotics, preventing smuggling, eliminating administrative corruption and its ongoing efforts towards economic and infrastructural development.

He reaffirmed Japan's commitment to continued cooperation in development and humanitarian sectors for the Afghan people.

He also announced Japan's support for those affected by the recent earthquake in the eastern provinces, confirming the dispatch of humanitarian aid. The assistance - including tents, blankets, and other essential items - will be delivered via the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) for distribution.

Qari Din Mohammad Hanif expressed gratitude for Japan's humanitarian and development support over the past two years and described the diplomatic relations between Afghanistan and Japan as historic.

He stressed the importance of further strengthening bilateral economic, development, and humanitarian cooperation.

Hanif also praised Ambassador Kuramaya's diplomatic mission in Kabul and thanked him for his contributions to the Afghan people during his tenure.
