OIC Welcomes Belgium's Intention To Recognize Palestine, Sanction Occupiers

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) JEDDAH, Sept 3 (KUNA) -- The Organization of Islamic Cooperation welcomed on Wednesday the Belgian government's announcement of its intention to recognize the State of Palestine and impose sanctions on the Israeli occupation authorities.
In a statement, the OIC Secretariat said that these important steps reflects Belgium's firm commitment to the international law and the UN resolutions on the Palestinian people's right for self-determination and establishment of their own independent state on the June 4th, 1967, borders of with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Other world countries should take the same stance and sanction the Israeli occupation in line with the International Court of Justice to help achieve peace, ensure accountability for the occupiers on their crimes and bring to a halt the occupation's continued violations against the Palestinian people, the OIC said.
It underlined the need for international support to Palestine's bid to get full membership at the United Nations to push forward the international endeavors for implementing the two-state solution for the conflict. (end)
