The responsibility for the attack was claimed by Jabhatu al-Ansar al-Mahdi, a faction of the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group.

The massive explosion damaged nearby houses and shops, shattering windows across a wide radius. During the clearance operation, the Bannu-Kohat Road remained completely sealed.

Police, army units, FC personnel, and Special Services Group (SSG) commandos jointly conducted the operation. Regional Police Officer Sajjad Khan and District Police Officer Bannu were present on-site and led the operation in real time.
