Dr Barbara Padalino is originally from Italy, where she graduated in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Bari. She later completed her PhD at the University of Sydney. She is currently an Associate Professor of Animal Behaviour, Husbandry and Welfare at Southern Cross University.

Before taking up this role, she held academic positions at several universities, including Bari and Bologna in Italy, Charles Sturt University and the University of Sydney in Australia, and City University of Hong Kong.

Dr Padalino has been a member of the Animal Health and Welfare Panel of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and of CAMENET, a technical committee of the Abu Dhabi Food Safety Authority. She is also a Diplomate of the European Veterinary College in Animal Welfare, Ethics and Law, and serves as an editorial board member for several peer-reviewed journals in animal and veterinary sciences.

Her research interests cover a wide range of topics, with a primary focus on animal transportation and the development and validation of welfare assessment protocols for companion and production animals.
