Kim Jong Un checks missile production facility

(MENAFN) North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has toured a recently established missile production facility to evaluate the country’s weapons manufacturing capabilities, according to state media reports on Monday.

A Korean news agency said Kim visited a combined missile production line operated by a major munitions enterprise to review current production capacity and future development plans. He was joined by senior officials from the ruling Workers' Party and leaders from the defense industry.

The inspection comes as Kim prepares for his first multilateral diplomatic appearance since taking power in December 2011. The 41-year-old leader is set to attend a large military parade in China on Wednesday, marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.

About 26 foreign leaders, including presidents and prime ministers from Russia, Indonesia, Pakistan, and India, are expected to attend the event. Kim has not participated in UN meetings or other international summits during his leadership, as North Korea remains under extensive sanctions over its nuclear weapons program dating back to 2006.
