GOP candidate burns Quran stating ‘I will end Islam in Texas’

(MENAFN) Valentina Gomez, a Republican congressional candidate in Texas, has triggered widespread outrage after releasing a campaign video in which she burns a copy of the Quran. The self-proclaimed "MAGA America First" hopeful shared the footage on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, urging supporters to back her bid for Congress.

In the video, Gomez issues a highly inflammatory warning: “Your daughters will be raped and your sons beheaded, unless we stop Islam once and for all,” before setting the Muslim holy book on fire. The act was accompanied by a track from rapper Ye (formerly Kanye West).

Declaring the U.S. a Christian nation, Gomez added, “Those terrorist Muslims can f*** off to any of the 57 Muslim countries. There is only one true God, and that is the God of Israel.” In her post, she wrote: “I will end Islam in Texas, so help me God.”

The video quickly went viral, gaining 3.8 million views in just 24 hours and sparking a flood of both support and condemnation. Podcaster Brian Allen responded, “This isn’t politics. It’s incitement. When the mosques start burning, remember: this was the match and the Texas GOP handed her the lighter.”

Gomez, who was born in Colombia and moved to the U.S. as a child, previously ran unsuccessfully for the GOP nomination for Missouri Secretary of State. She is now running in Texas’ 31st Congressional District for the 2026 elections.

A former Olympic swimmer, Gomez is no stranger to controversy. Last year, she attacked transgender participation in women’s sports, writing, “There’s no such thing as a chick with a d***. Keep women sports female!” on X.
