S. Korea Pulls Plug on Propaganda Radio Targeting DPRK

(MENAFN) South Korea has officially suspended its propaganda radio program directed at the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Seoul’s defense ministry announced on Monday.

The ministry released a statement confirming the halt of the "Voice of Freedom" broadcast, describing the move as part of broader efforts to ease rising military tensions between the two Koreas. This decision signals a rare step toward de-escalation in a region frequently marked by hostility.

The suspension marks the first time in 15 years that the South Korean government has stopped the transmission of the program, which was initially resumed by the ministry in May 2010 after a period of dormancy.

In a related development, the South Korean military also dismantled loudspeakers used to broadcast propaganda along the border with the DPRK in August, further underscoring Seoul’s commitment to reducing provocative activities.

The suspension of “Voice of Freedom” and removal of border loudspeakers reflect ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at stabilizing inter-Korean relations amid a volatile security environment.
