WeChat Rolls Out Mandatory Labeling for AI-Generated Content
(MENAFN) Chinese tech giant WeChat announced Sunday it will roll out mandatory labeling for all AI-generated content, introducing both explicit and hidden markers in an effort to bolster transparency and online safety.
Media reports indicate that beginning Monday, all social media accounts on WeChat must distinctly label AI-generated content, including text, images, audio, video, and virtual scenes. The update aims to enhance content traceability, boost transparency, and uphold platform integrity, while fostering a secure and trustworthy digital environment.
The platform’s content security division, Shanhu, outlined the policy in an official notice, explaining that the labeling system is intended to help users easily identify material produced by artificial intelligence.
WeChat stressed that users are obligated to proactively declare when uploading synthetic or AI-generated media. The rules strictly prohibit tampering with these labels, warning against any attempts to modify, delete, or hide them.
In addition to enforcement around labeling, the platform issued a stern warning: using artificial intelligence to disseminate false, illegal, or rule-violating content will not be tolerated.
