Pro-Palestine Protest in Sydney Leads to Arrests
(MENAFN) Five individuals were taken into custody following a pro-Palestinian demonstration that escalated into violence outside an Australian firm accused of supplying military components to Israel, according to an official announcement.
The protest took place at SEC Plating on Friday, where demonstrators gathered to oppose the company's alleged role in the conflict.
According to a statement released by The Greens New South Wales, SEC Plating is "involved in providing plating services for various parts used in F-35 jets."
The political party further claimed that Israel's "fleet of around 40 F-35 rely on the global supply chain and supplement supply from countries like Australia to continue the genocide against the Palestinian people," emphasizing the alleged role of Australian businesses in supporting Israeli military operations.
Law enforcement from New South Wales (NSW) reported that around 60 activists were issued a formal order to disperse after they reportedly tried to obstruct pedestrian access to the premises.
Authorities detained five individuals on various charges, ranging from failing to comply with police instructions to attempting to evade law enforcement.
All arrested parties were released on conditional bail and are scheduled to appear in Bankstown Local Court on July 15.
One woman suffered a severe injury to her eye during the incident. NSW Police confirmed that "during the 35-year-old woman’s arrest," former Greens candidate Hannah Thomas, "she sustained facial injuries and was taken to Bankstown Hospital for treatment."
Images widely shared on social media showed Thomas with a swollen, shut eye and blood covering her face.
Reports suggest she may be at risk of losing her eye due to the injury.
