Amman, Sept 4 (Petra) – Jordan on Thursday launched the 6th Jordanian Heart Valve Conference, a major scientific forum bringing together cardiologists and interventional specialists from Jordan, the region and abroad to examine the latest advances in valve disease management.
The two-day conference, organized by the Cardiovascular Academic Group of the Jordanian Cardiac Society and the Jordan Medical Association, is accredited by the Jordan Medical Council and includes 12 scientific sessions, over 40 presentations, and live case transmissions from leading centers in the United States and Europe.
Opening the conference, Health Minister Dr. Ibrahim Al-Bdour underscored Jordan's prioritization of advanced cardiovascular care within its broader health strategy. He noted that heart disease continues to rise globally due to chronic risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension, smoking and vascular disease, emphasizing the importance of prevention, early detection and interventional innovation.
Over the past 15 years, Jordan has become a regional pioneer in catheter-based valve interventions. The country performed its first transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) in 2009, followed by the first transcatheter mitral valve replacement in 2017, and the first mitral valve clipping in 2019. Recently, Jordanian specialists successfully performed tricuspid valve clipping, making all four cardiac valves treatable through percutaneous techniques.
Dr. Imad Haddad, conference chair and president of the Cardiovascular Academic Group, said Jordanian outcomes in these procedures are comparable with international standards, with success rates near 95 percent. "Most patients are discharged within 24 hours, reflecting both procedural safety and rapid recovery," he noted.
Scientific committee chair Dr. Ayman Hamoudeh said the program addresses contemporary valve disease therapies, with contributions from approximately 80 experts and professional societies including the Palestinian Cardiac Society, the Saudi Interventional Cardiology Society, and the Iraqi Cardiac and Thoracic Society. Sessions will also feature case-based discussions on rare and complex valve pathologies.
Jordan Medical Association president Dr. Issa Al-Khashashneh praised the conference as a platform for advancing both clinical excellence and academic collaboration, while recognizing the contributions of early generations of Jordanian cardiologists in building the country's reputation for cardiovascular care.
Alongside the scientific program, an industry exhibition is showcasing innovations in cardiac devices, pharmaceuticals and surgical technologies.
Organizers say the conference highlights Jordan's growing role as a regional hub for advanced cardiovascular therapies and medical tourism, while reinforcing professional development for Jordan's next generation of cardiologists.
