Amman, August 24 (Petra) – Minister of Social Development Wafa Bani Mustafa met on Sunday with Sima Bahous, Under-Secretary-General of the UN and Executive Director of UN Women to discuss ways to enhance cooperation.
Bani Mustafa discussed the collaborative efforts between the Ministry and UN Women, praising the joint implementation of various programmes and initiatives, particularly those carried out by the Ministerial Committee for the Empowerment of Women in partnership with the Commission.
The initiatives, she noted, reflect Jordan's strong commitment to advancing women's empowerment and increasing their participation across different sectors.
She praised UN Women's role in launching the Political Declaration of the Beijing Platform for Action, marking its 30th anniversary and reaffirmed Jordan's continued dedication to the platform's priorities.
She underscored the importance of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, stressing the need for its full implementation to protect women affected by conflict.
Bani Mustafa pointed to the ongoing collaboration on the "Oases" project, which is being implemented at community development centres across the Kingdom.
She noted that the project is being further developed to adopt a productivity- and sustainability-focused approach, aiming to enhance the delivery of social and development services to women and girls.
For her part, Bahous commended the strong partnership with the Ministry and the Ministerial Committee, expressing hope for continued and expanded cooperation in the future.
She praised Jordan's firm stance in upholding the principles of the UN Charter and international humanitarian law. In particular, she lauded Jordan's humanitarian efforts in the Gaza Strip, including the deployment of field hospitals, relief convoys and medical assistance as a reflection of Jordan's enduring humanitarian leadership and commitment to pluralism.
