North Korea Test-Fires New Air Defense Missiles

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) North Korea announced Sunday that it has successfully test-fired two newly developed air defense missiles, in an exercise personally overseen by leader Kim Jong Un, amid heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the tests were conducted on Saturday and demonstrated the missiles' "superior combat capability" as well as a "fast response" against aerial targets such as attack drones and cruise missiles.
KCNA did not provide technical details on the new systems, noting only that their "operation and reaction mode is based on unique and special technology."
The announcement comes one day before US President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet his South Korean counterpart, Lee Jae Myung, in Washington, DC.
The launches also coincided with annual joint military drills between South Korea and the United States. In a separate development, the South Korean military said it fired warning shots on Tuesday after several North Korean soldiers briefly crossed the heavily militarized inter-Korean border.
