GCC Chief Underlines Importance Of Acting Swiftly To Open Crossings In Gaza

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RIYADH, Aug 22 (KUNA) -- The Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Al-Budaiwi on Friday underlined the importance of exerting swift pressure on the Israeli occupation to open up crossings for the delivery of aid to besieged Gaza.
In a statement, Al-Budaiwi made his remarks after an official declaration by a UN review committee on famine in Gaza.
Earlier, the United Nations officially declared a famine in Gaza, the first time it has done so in the Middle East.
The assessment of famine was made by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification Initiative (IPC), a coalition of monitors tasked by the UN to warn of impending crises.
UN agencies have long been warning of the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza, particularly as Israel steps up its offensive and complete occupation of the Strip.
Al-Budaiwi said such declaration shows exactly the dangerous inhuman policy of starvation, which is carried out unjustly and illegally by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinians in Gaza.
GCC chief also renewed support by his organization to the Palestinian people, affirmed need to end the imposed sanctions in Gaza, deliver the urgent aid needed to the Palestinians and protecting them. (end)
