Canada Declares Cancelling Tariffs On Many US Goods
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
WASHINGTON, Aug 22 (KUNA) -- Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney declared on Friday that his nation is cancelling custom tariffs on many American products effective September 1.
Carney, speaking at a news conference, excerpts of which were broadcast by the American media, said the products are covered by the North America free trade agreement that involves the two nations plus Mexico.
Canada will retain the levies on imported US steel, aluminum and cars, the prime minister added, noting that his country enjoy a preferential status with the US with respect of fees as the duties are in the range of 5.6 percent, the lowest among the US trade partners.
Canada has slapped high tariffs reaching 25 percent on a wide range of US goods in retaliation for a US decision to impose 35 percent worth of tariffs on the American imports. (end)
