Pres. Al-Sisi: Egypt Backs Saudi Initiatives For Middle East Peace
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
CAIRO, Aug 21 (KUNA) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi reaffirmed support to the initiatives of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to resolve the Palestine question, the latest of which was the international conference on the implementation of the two-state solution.
During his meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman in the Saudi city of Neom on Thursday, President Al-Sisi hailed the outcomes of the conference, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France in New York City on July 28-30.
Both sides discussed the latest developments of regional and international issues of common concern, including Egypt's efforts to establish ceasefire in Gaza Strip, Egyptian presidential spokesman Mohammad Al-Shinnawi said in a press release.
They highlighted the importance of speeding up the relief effort for Gazans and freeing all hostages.
They stated firm opposition to any attempts aiming to evict the Palestinians from their homeland or bring back Gaza Strip to the yoke of Israeli military occupation, the spokesman pointed out.
Both sides underscored the urgency of putting an end to the maltreatment by the Israeli occupation authorities of the Palestinians in the West Bank.
On the bilateral relations, the Saudi Crown Prince appreciated Egypt's pivotal role in strengthening security and stability in the Middle East region.
President Al-Sisi praised the historical relationship between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, voicing hope for increasing the joint investment and speeding up the launching of the joint supreme coordination council.
He noted that the planned council would constitute a quantum leap in economic cooperation, Al-Shinnawi noted.
Both sides agreed to launch more joint ventures in the areas of industry, technology, renewable energy, and urban development.
They stated a shared desire to continue working together on regional issues to help stabilize the Middle East and ensure the territorial integrity and the national safety of the Arab countries.
After the talks, President Al-Sisi concluded his brief visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Araba and left for home, according to the statement. (end)
