Amman, August 21 (Petra) - Director General of the Income and Sales Tax Department (ISTD), Dr. Hussam Abu Ali, said the National Electronic Invoicing System is a "fundamental" reform step in the development of Jordan's financial and economic policy.
Abu Ali noted this system is "a national and legislative necessity" to control and regulate the economy, enhance tax justice, and achieve transparency in financial transactions.
During a dialogue session on "The National Electronic Invoicing System, Concepts, and Challenges," Abu Ali indicated that the number of taxpayers registered in the system has exceeded 140,000, reflecting the the private sector's "growing awareness of its importance."
Abu Ali stated department's website now allows users to inquire about all registered taxpayers.
Abu Ali also remarked the e-billing system has proven "its effectiveness," issuing 1.2 million invoices per day, with the average transaction time reaching just half a second.
This figure, he noted, reflects "strength" of the system's infrastructure and its staff's competence.
The system integrates various aspects of security and information protection applied in global systems and was piloted on a number of establishments and companies before its official launch, he pointed out.
Additionally, he said: "The system is simple and user-friendly and has proven its ability to accommodate all accounting systems used by various sectors and adapt to these systems without requiring any changes."
In a related context, Abu Ali stated the ISTD has become a "fully digital" department, as its transactions are now provided electronically via over 65 e-services available to taxpayers.
Besides digitizing services, he said the ISTD has integrated artificial intelligence in tax auditing, which has "improved audit efficiency and uncovered evasion cases."
