Licensed building regions in Jordan hike by 26.2 percent in first six months of 2025
(MENAFN) Licensed building areas in Jordan reached 4.77 million square meters in the first half of 2025, up 26.2% from 3.78 million square meters during the same period in 2024, the Department of Statistics (DoS) reported on Monday. The number of building permits also increased to 11,700, a 14.7% rise from 10,197 permits last year.
Residential construction accounted for 3.66 million square meters, a 19.6% increase, while non-residential building areas surged 53.7% to 1.11 million square meters. Residential permits made up 76.7% of total licensed areas.
Regionally, the central region dominated with 71.9% of licensed areas, increasing 4.9%, whereas the northern and southern regions recorded 20% and 8.1% of licensed areas, down 13% and 4.7%, respectively. Among governorates, Amman had the highest licensed residential area per capita at 0.413 square meters, while Mafraq had the lowest at 0.119 square meters.
The report also indicated that new buildings and additions accounted for 3.03 million square meters, up 21.2% from the same period in 2024, with existing buildings representing 36.5% of the total licensed area.
