Failed smuggling attempt of large quantity of Captagon pills in Syria
(MENAFN) Syrian authorities intercepted a major Captagon smuggling attempt in Daraa province and disrupted a drug trafficking network in Aleppo, according to reports.
Khaled Eid, head of Syria’s Anti-Narcotics Department, said that in Daraa, a large shipment of Captagon pills hidden inside food jars, including tomato paste, was seized before it could leave the country. In Aleppo, authorities dismantled a trafficking operation, confiscating roughly 200,000 Captagon pills.
Eid emphasized that these operations are part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and protect public safety. Captagon, a synthetic stimulant developed in the 1960s to treat disorders such as hyperactivity and depression, was later banned in most countries due to its high addiction risk.
