Iraqi security forces attack IS hiding places, killing group on site
(MENAFN) Iraqi security forces have conducted two separate air raids on Islamic State (IS) hideouts, killing militants inside, according to the Joint Operations Command (JOC).
The first strike, carried out Tuesday by F-16 fighter jets, hit a major IS site in Salahuddin province, destroying the location and eliminating those present. A second strike followed on Thursday in northern Kirkuk province, targeting another IS position. Officials said further information will be released later.
In a related operation, the JOC confirmed the arrest of Salman Khudair Suleiman Dawood, one of Iraq’s most wanted extremists, previously tied to both al-Qaeda and IS.
Although Iraq declared victory over IS in 2017, remnants of the group remain active, continuing sporadic attacks in cities, deserts, and remote areas.
