Israel attacks power plant in Yemen's capital
(MENAFN) Israel launched a strike on a power plant south of Sanaa on Sunday morning, according to reports from Houthi-controlled media.
"The aggression targeted the electricity generators at the power station, causing them to go out of service," the outlet stated, without clarifying whether the strike involved aircraft, missiles, or drones. It later added that the fire was contained and no casualties occurred.
Hezam Al-Asad, a Houthi official, denounced the attack on X, calling Israel "a criminal and bankrupt enemy that only targets public service facilities and civilian objects: electricity, water..."
Local residents reported hearing two blasts, and witnesses said smoke rose from the area around the facility.
The Israeli military acknowledged responsibility, stating it struck an energy infrastructure site linked to Houthi operations. The Israel Defense Forces said the attack, launched from roughly 2,000 kilometers away, was carried out in retaliation for repeated missile and drone assaults launched against Israel by the Houthis.
