Amman, Aug 13 (Petra) – Director of the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) Raed Al Khattab said on Wednesday that the country will remain under the current heatwave on Thursday, with temperatures in the capital, Amman, reaching 42 C, accompanied by intense heat and dusty winds in desert areas.
Al Khattab added that the heatwave will gradually ease, with temperatures in Amman expected to drop to 37 C on Thursday. By Saturday, the heatwave is forecast to fully recede across all regions, returning temperatures to seasonal averages, with a high of 33 C in Amman. Normal summer conditions will continue on Sunday, with the capital seeing a high of 32 C.
Al Khattab noted that this was the first heatwave affecting Jordan this year and resulted in three new national temperature records, according to meteorological data.
He urged residents to avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours, stay hydrated, never leave children or flammable materials inside vehicles, and be cautious of reduced visibility due to desert dust. Night and early morning fog may form over northern highlands starting Saturday.
