Court Fines Man Named Jesus Christ
(MENAFN) A man identified as Jesus Christ has been penalized in the Russian city of Kazan for breaching immigration regulations by illicitly registering foreign citizens in a small apartment.
This sanction follows the enactment of new migration legislation signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin last month, which heightened fines and punishments in an effort to strengthen oversight of unlawful migration.
The 45-year-old, recorded in court documents as Jesus Petrovich Christ, was deemed guilty of fraudulently registering 45 foreign nationals in his 32-square-meter, single-room dwelling.
In Russia, migrants must obtain formal registration to reside and work legally, prompting some to resort to unlawful measures to secure such paperwork.
According to investigators, he demanded 2,000 rubles (approximately $25) from each person for the registration.
The court imposed a fine of 13,000 rubles ($163) on him.
Christ’s actual birth name remains undisclosed, as neither the court nor the prosecutor’s office is aware of it.
Participants in the legal proceedings noted that he had a fixation with numerology, which motivated him to alter his name and family name several years ago, retaining only his genuine patronymic, Petrovich.
The original court date was scheduled for spring 2025 but was delayed repeatedly due to Christ’s absence. In April, the court opted to compel his attendance at trial.
By May, the Moscow District Court had already penalized him 60,000 rubles ($755) for comparable infractions.
