Amman, Aug. 7 (Petra) -- Jordan Press Association (JPA) President Tariq Momani on Thursday submitted a list of 33 individuals and social media account holders to Amman Public Prosecutor Hassan Abdallat, accusing them of illegally practicing journalism without proper legal status.
During the meeting, attended by JPA Council Member Muwafaq Kamal and legal advisor Mahmoud Qutishat, Momani underlined the Association's commitment to pursuing legal action against impersonators, citing their threat to journalism and public trust, and their role in spreading misinformation and undermining societal stability.
Abdallat instructed the initiation of legal procedures against the offenders and stressed the importance of expediting investigations. He affirmed the Public Prosecution's support for the JPA's efforts to protect the integrity of the journalism profession.
Last month, the JPA formed a special committee to safeguard the profession by monitoring social media violations related to impersonating journalists. The committee is continuing to compile additional lists that will be referred to the Public Prosecutor in due course.
