U.S. Witkoff Lands in Moscow for Ukraine War Talks

(MENAFN) Steve Witkoff, the special envoy for US President Donald Trump, touched down in Moscow on Wednesday to engage in discussions concerning the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, according to local media.

Upon arrival at Vnukovo Airport, Witkoff was greeted by Kirill Dmitriev, Russia’s presidential envoy for investment and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund. The two then took a stroll through Zaryadye Park, located close to the Kremlin.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov previously indicated that a direct meeting between Witkoff and Russian President Vladimir Putin remains a viable option.

This visit unfolds amid Trump’s warning of harsh new sanctions against Russia, which could include a full 100% tariff and secondary sanctions targeting its trade partners, should there be no substantial advancement toward resolving the war.

Witkoff’s arrival also comes just days before the August 8 deadline set by Trump for Russia to accept a ceasefire agreement with Ukraine.
