India, Philippines Achieve Strategic Partnership
(MENAFN) India and the Philippines declared the formation of a strategic partnership after discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr on Tuesday.
As the two nations celebrate the 75th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties, they agreed to broaden both economic and military relations.
“We have resolved to elevate our relations to the status of a strategic partnership,” Modi stated during a joint press conference with Marcos in New Delhi on Tuesday.
“Our bilateral commerce is steadily increasing, having surpassed $3 billion. To reinforce this growth, our main focus is to finalize the India-Asean Free Trade Review promptly.”
The Philippine President noted that his visit to India this week serves as a reaffirmation of the bilateral alliance that both countries “are fortifying,” while emphasizing the island country's procurement of BrahMos cruise missiles.
“We convey our satisfaction with the swift progress in the Philippines' ongoing defense modernization and the growing capabilities and presence of India’s domestic defense sector as a collaborator in this effort, as demonstrated by our BrahMos project,” Marcos remarked.
