Election Commission Head, Arab League Chief Discuss Advancing Arab Electoral Administration

Cairo, August 5 (Petra) -- The President of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Election Commission and President of the Arab Organization of Electoral Management Bodies, Musa Maaytah, met with Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit at the League's General Secretariat headquarters in Cairo to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in the electoral field.
According to a statement issued by the Commission on Tuesday, the meeting was attended by Jordan's Permanent Representative to the Arab League and Ambassador to Egypt, Amjad Adaileh.
Discussions focused on developing the relationship between the Arab Organization of Electoral Management Bodies and the Arab League in a way that strengthens institutional cooperation and enhances the exchange of technical expertise among Arab countries, in support of democratic processes and joint Arab action in the electoral sphere.
Both parties emphasized the importance of continuing coordination and consultation on issues of mutual interest, especially in light of current regional challenges.
Maaytah praised the notable progress in cooperation between the Arab League and the Arab Organization over the past years, citing the active participation of both sides in various electoral events held in several Arab countries.
He also expressed hope for expanding this cooperation in the coming period to include broader and more sustainable areas, noting the progress made by the organization recently.
He pointed to the growing number of Arab countries seeking to join the organization as members, reflecting the increasing confidence in its role and position in supporting and developing electoral performance in the Arab world.
For his part, Secretary-General Aboul Gheit affirmed the Arab League's full openness to supporting institutional efforts aimed at developing electoral administrations in Arab countries. He commended the constructive cooperation and growing partnership between the League and the Arab Organization of Electoral Management Bodies.
