Kremlin advices ‘careful use of nuclear rhetoric’

(MENAFN) The Kremlin has called for restraint in public comments involving nuclear weapons, following former US President Donald Trump's claim that he redeployed two American nuclear submarines to strategic areas as a precaution.

Trump made the announcement last week on his Truth Social platform, stating the submarines had been moved to “the appropriate regions.”

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded by minimizing the move’s significance, saying that US nuclear submarines are regularly on patrol and such deployments are routine. He added that Russia does not wish to escalate rhetoric or become entangled in such discussions.

“We treat nuclear-related statements with extreme caution,” Peskov said, emphasizing that Russia maintains a responsible stance and upholds its commitment to nuclear non-proliferation.

He also remarked that internal disagreements on such topics can exist within any government, but affirmed that Russia follows the position of President Vladimir Putin.

“We believe everyone should exercise great caution when it comes to nuclear rhetoric,” Peskov concluded.

Trump, when asked about the decision at a press conference on Friday, defended the move by asserting that the US must always be prepared for potential conflict.

The White House and Pentagon have not provided any confirmation or details regarding the submarine redeployment. The location of US nuclear submarines remains classified, making Trump’s claim unverifiable.
