Türkiye Sees Robust Growth in Auto Sales


(MENAFN) Türkiye’s automotive market demonstrated robust growth in the first seven months of the year, with car and light commercial vehicle sales rising 6.5% year-over-year to a total of 715,695 units, data from the Turkish Automotive Distributors Association (ODMD) reveals.

Passenger car sales climbed 6.68% to reach 572,198 units from January through July, while light commercial vehicles experienced a 5.77% increase, totaling 143,497 units in the same period.

The segments benefiting from lower tax rates—A, B, and C—dominated 81.5% of the market in the first half of 2025. Among these, C segment vehicles led with 55.6% market share, translating to 318,343 units sold from January to July. B segment models followed, representing 25.4% of total sales or 145,595 units.

SUVs emerged as the most popular vehicle type in Türkiye during the first six months, capturing 62.6% of sales with 357,984 units. Sedans accounted for 22.2%, totaling 126,928 units, while hatchbacks comprised 14.4%, with 82,144 units sold.

Fuel type preferences highlighted gasoline cars at the forefront, making up 46.5% of the market with 266,095 units. Hybrid vehicles followed at 26.8% (155,363 units), electric vehicles (EVs) surged to 18.1% (103,310 units), diesel cars held 8% (45,678 units), and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cars represented 0.7% with 3,752 units sold.

EV sales saw remarkable growth, especially models with engines under 160 kilowatts, which soared 108.6%, claiming a 14% share. Meanwhile, EVs equipped with engines above 160 kilowatts skyrocketed by 233.2%, accounting for 4.1% of total car sales within the period.

Engine size trends showed a decline in cars with engines smaller than 1,600 cubic centimeters (cc), which dropped 23.6% but still represented 54.3% of the market. Vehicles with engines between 1,600 and 2,000 cc increased 4.9%, reaching a 0.6% share, while those over 2,000 cc grew 18.8%, capturing 0.2%.

Automatic transmissions overwhelmingly dominated, comprising 94.6% of sales with 541,388 units, while manual transmissions made up 5.4% with 30,810 units.

Among light commercial vehicles, vans accounted for 72.7% with 104,271 units sold, and pickup trucks represented 9.9% with 14,178 units.

In July alone, Türkiye’s car and light commercial vehicle market expanded by 14.55% year-on-year, totaling 107,718 units sold. Car sales jumped 14.71% to 84,195 units, while light commercial vehicle sales increased 13.96%, reaching 23,523 units.
