(MENAFN) Iran has held discussions with Russia and China on its nuclear program and the impact of Western sanctions, according to a report by Iran's state-run IRNA news agency on Tuesday. The meeting took place in Tehran and involved senior diplomats from all three nations, focusing on the current status of nuclear negotiations that include Iran, the United States, and European powers.

The delegations agreed to reconvene for further talks in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, Iranian state television announced that formal negotiations with the UK, France, and Germany are scheduled to resume on Friday in Istanbul. The meeting was requested by the European signatories of the 2015 nuclear accord.

The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), signed in 2015, involved Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council—the US, UK, France, Russia, and China—alongside Germany. However, the United States withdrew from the deal in May 2018 and reinstated broad economic sanctions on Iran.

These diplomatic developments come in the wake of a recent 12-day Israeli military campaign against Iran, which began on June 13 and resulted in significant casualties on both sides. A ceasefire, brokered by Washington, was declared on June 24, with each side claiming success.

Prior to the conflict, Tehran and Washington had engaged in several rounds of indirect talks aimed at reviving the nuclear agreement.
