(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation on Monday with Israeli Premier Benjamin Netanyahu to deliberate on rising strains in the Middle East, according to a statement released by the Kremlin.

During the call, the Russian side restated its firm backing for settling disputes and challenges in the region through “exclusively peaceful means,” emphasizing diplomacy over confrontation.

Putin underlined the necessity of preserving Syria’s “unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.”

He also highlighted the importance of enhancing the country’s domestic political equilibrium by honoring the “legitimate rights and interests of all minorities.”

In addition, the discussion addressed the latest flare-up between Israel and Iran.

Putin voiced his readiness to assist in finding a “negotiated solution” concerning Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
