Putin envoy states Russia-US discussions to resume despite attempts to delay them
(MENAFN) Russia remains committed to engaging in constructive talks with the United States, even amid rising tensions and attempts to sabotage the relationship, according to Kirill Dmitriev, President Vladimir Putin’s special envoy for economic cooperation.
Dmitriev, who also heads the Russian Direct Investment Fund, emphasized in a Telegram post on Monday that diplomacy and dialogue are more productive than pressure tactics. He criticized the approach of former U.S. President Joe Biden’s administration as ineffective and counterproductive.
He also asserted that despite “titanic efforts” to derail negotiations, discussions between Moscow and Washington would move forward. Dmitriev did not specify who was behind these disruptive efforts but underscored that mutual respect, pragmatism, and economic collaboration are crucial for global stability.
Since returning to office, U.S. President Donald Trump has reestablished communication with the Kremlin, including several phone conversations with President Putin — marking a departure from Biden’s isolation strategy.
However, Trump’s stance has recently shown signs of shifting. He has voiced dissatisfaction over stalled peace talks on Ukraine and hinted at a forthcoming policy update. He is expected to make a significant statement on U.S.-Russia relations soon.
Meanwhile, Senator Lindsey Graham suggested the announcement could include new sanctions or the delivery of offensive weapons to Ukraine. He mentioned a proposed Senate bill that would authorize tariffs of up to 500% on countries continuing to trade with Russia — a move he described as giving Trump a “sledgehammer” to use against Moscow.
In response, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia is closely monitoring Trump’s comments and will assess the upcoming announcement carefully to understand its implications.
